Columbia recognized for excellence in Physical Education

杏吧原创 was recently presented with two respected awards for their physical education and recreational programs.

CIRA Ontario 罢丑别听Canadian Intramural Recreation Association of Ontario聽(CIRA) awarded Columbia with an Outstanding Intramural Achievement Award for its exceptional intramural/recreation program in 2013-2014.

The award was given to 48 schools across Ontario that 鈥減romote and develop active living, healthy lifestyles and personal growth through intramural and recreational programs within the education and recreation communities.鈥 The letter from CIRA stated that Columbia鈥檚 programs 鈥渉ave greatly improved the quality of education for students by recognizing the value of physical activity for mental and physical well-being.” This is the 11th consecutive year the CIRA Ontario award has been presented to Columbia.

PHE Canada Columbia was also presented with a national award from聽Physical and Health Education Canada聽(PHE Canada), in recognition of the school鈥檚 鈥渃omprehensive Physical Education program that provides a foundation for the development of physical literacy.鈥 As one of 500 schools out of 15,000 that received this award, Columbia is proud that its physical education, afterschool activities and student leadership programs were recognized for 鈥渆nabling students to live physically active and healthy lives.鈥

Recreation at Columbia聽 Mr. Freddy Velazquez, Athletics Coordinator, believes the two awards are a testament to 鈥淐olumbia鈥檚 effort and support for physical activities, recreation and leadership programs for our students.鈥

A special聽thank you聽goes to聽Mr. Freddy, Mr. Erind, Ms. Simpson聽and all advisors and staff from Student Development for their leadership in various athletic programs both in school and in residence.

Both banners are displayed in the Ainsliewood Gym, alongside those awarded in previous years.
