Columbia鈥檚 students and staff came together last week to raise awareness and funds for Canada鈥檚聽.
On March 12, teams of 3, made up of male, female and coed players, participated in the school鈥檚 annual Hoops for Heart basketball tournament fundraiser. Held in the Ainsliewood gym, the daylong tournament not only gave students the opportunity to be active and have fun, but also educated them on two important health issues; heart disease and stroke.
Prizes will be awarded to the tournament鈥檚 top scoring teams: Male division聽鈥� Mr. Koo鈥檚 class Female division聽鈥� Ms. Pivniceru鈥檚 class Co-ed division聽鈥� Ms. Lanza鈥檚 class
As raising funds and awareness are crucial to promoting heart health, students who participated were asked to raise a minimum of $25 in order to be eligible to play in the tournament. Along with promoting the importance of daily physical activity, the tournament teaches students important life values, such as responsibility, teamwork, and fairness, and is a great way to promote school spirit.
