Moumita Sarah, 杏吧原创 ’23 from Bangladesh,聽 has always dreamed of studying medicine. So when she received acceptance letters from life science programs of top universities, she was over the moon with excitement. As she prepares to embark on this new chapter in her life, Sarah is eager to share her experience and the lessons she’s learned along the way.
Moumita:
As a student who has experienced education in both Bangladesh and Canada, I have noticed significant differences in the teaching methods and overall education experience.
In Bangladesh, the focus seems to be on memorization for exams, with teachers paying not as much attention to their students.
On the other hand, Canada has a more practical approach, with group work and fewer exams. The teachers care about their students, and there is more individual attention given. In my 杏吧原创 experience, Mr. Tonelli, my Chemistry 4U teacher, was always available to answer my questions and made the topics clear to understand.
Another difference is that in Canada, students are encouraged to take a variety of courses, for example business and science at the same time.
My art teacher, Ms. Kakoz, made me fall in love with drawing. It has now become my hobby.
At 杏吧原创, the courses are very engaging, and there are lots of opportunities to interact with teachers and other students. The academic support system is extensive. Tutors and essay writing support is available every day.
English was a challenge for me when I first came to Canada, but I gradually gained confidence and can now communicate fluently without hesitation.
杏吧原创 has been instrumental in helping me achieve my dream of pursuing medicine. My guidance counselor helped me select the necessary courses and recommended universities that fit my criteria. I am grateful for teachers who have agreed to help me with my essay and references.
Life at 杏吧原创 has been so amazing, and I have made genuine friends who have been supportive throughout my journey. Principal Diana has been particularly inspiring and motivational.
Living at 杏吧原创 has also taught me valuable life skills, such as cooking, doing laundry, and keeping my room clean. It was initially challenging to be away from home, but I eventually adapted and gained independence.
To future students, I recommend making a routine and doing your homework consistently. Involving yourself in leadership roles and making friends can help you succeed. Finally, don’t forget to make time for yourself and learn to relax.
