Non perishable food item examples

Students at ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ are on a mission to restock the shelves of local food banks. Students are being challenged to donate as many non-perishable food items as they can to help the local community by participating in the school’s Homeroom Food Drive.

Organized by Columbia’s Leadership classes, the food drive seeks to highlight the issue of hunger in local communities and teach students the importance of giving back to those in need. Students have been working with Sodexo, our food service provider, to raise awareness and funds about hunger through various in school fundraising initiatives.

The homeroom class that collects the largest and heaviest amount of food will win pizza party! As the winner will be determined by the weight of donations, students are encouraged to donate heavier items (ie. canned soup, beans, juices, canned fruits and vegetables etc.) to give their classes a better chance of winning first place.

2014 results Each year, students surpass and exceed the contributions raised the previous year. Students will have to work exceptionally hard to beat the 2014 records of: • $5,042.01 collected through fundraising initiatives • 5150 lbs of non-perishable food items collected school wide • 640 lbs collected from the winning class in the homeroom food drive challenge

Stay tuned, the winning class will be announced at the end of the month.
